✍️ Sketch Along #15 Update + #16: Drawing MUSHROOMS
VIP sketch-along #16 is happening today at 7pm UK time. Other details below. Reminder! Our sketch-alongs happen every Thursday.
✏️ I forgot to publish last week’s sketch-along post, whoops 🤦♀️ We drew florals and talked about poison gardens, working with watercolor and making surface design patterns along with a bunch of other stuff! Here’s a taste of what I painted during last week’s session below 😍✏️

✏️What are we drawing?
This week we are drawing…
Mushrooms! 🍄 All different kinds of fungi and fun-gals! See what I did there? Sigh!
Last week I shared a couple reference images of mushrooms and I became OBSESSED. I love drawing mushrooms and I think they're a hot topic in the book and design world right now! Bring your watercolors and/or colorful drawing tools to this session again. We'll spend a nice, relaxing time drawing at a medium pace and becoming entranced in the world of fungi! See you there 💛🍄
✏️Drawing references?
We’ll be referencing from…
Science journals, BBC Earth and more! The Public Domain Image Search has SO many beautiful technical drawings of fungi that you could stare at for days (plus cover your house in!).
Make sure to bring along your art supplies! We’ll be drawing lot of color today so so bring your colorful supplies: paints, watercolor pencils, wax crayons, etc!~
I’ll add the references and reference sources to the Discord sketch-along channel so you can continue practicing before and after our meetup. If you haven’t joined the now bustling TIAC Discord group, check out our VIP chat for the link 💛
✏️When and what time?
We’ll all be chatting and sketching today: June 12th, 2025!
Our weekly sketch-alongs take place at 7pm UK time and 2pm EST. Click here to access a time zone converter to convert the time to your time zone.
Can’t make it? No worries! Our sketch-alongs are uploaded to The Illustrator’s Art Club VIP substack archive for you to view at your leisure👍
It’s an hour-long sketching party and part-casual-hangout/part-fun-drawing tutorial.
We’ll be chatting about:
Why mushrooms are so popular in art through history. Hello, Alice in Wonderland and Super Mario Bros. 👋
How to paint mushrooms in a recognizable way.
How mushrooms could make great main characters in stories if we gave them the chance.
And whatever else we can fit in an hour!

✏️ And where are we drawing??
