✏️ Here are some sketches from last week’s sketch-along. We drew DRAGONS! Rawr! These are copies from real life (sort of) and movie concept art.✏️

✏️What are we drawing?

This week we are drawing…

Mermaids! Sirens of the deep. Probably my favorite childhood mythical creature? Who doesn’t love a mer-person?

This month is all about drawing different mythical creatures as a homage to the classic art challenge, Mermay! Get ready to draw some fish, draw some people, and draw everything in between. Maybe we can come up with brand-new mermaid combinations as well? Let’s have fun and see!

✏️Drawing references?

We’ll be referencing from…

Everywhere! Pinterest, books, concept art, ancient depictions. I might throw in some actual animal photography (like cool-looking fish) in our references to understand the basic anatomy of Atlantians mermaids.

All real mermaids know what dinglehoppers are for. From The Little Mermaid (Disney 1989)

Make sure to bring along your drafting supplies. Pencils, colored pencils, and any other tools good for drawing details is going to be perfect!
